Removing & Cleaning up AdBlock Exceptions

Post by pandafoot »

I have recently been getting a lot of requests on the CNN URL to "whitelist" their page which I have done several times. Something is wrong.

Today i was at the page and a page came up directing me to a "Critical Update" for Firefox. I clicked and saved file to desktop but as it was on the page I realized the address was at something like "ophiasports... so I closed browser and immediately deleted the downloaded file. [File was also a .js which was suspect]

I believe that I need to clean-up my AdBlock Rule exceptions somehow as some things may be "white-listed" that shouldn't be. I read someplace that there was a phishing ad doing this to users. I will also run my antivirus programs including Malwarebytes and SuperAntispyware.

Please advise how to properly configure things and the filters so I get the best protection and minimize false "whitelistings"

thank you.

Well, it seems your system is infested by malware.
After cleaning it (using anti malware stuff) you could go into "filter preferences", "custom filters" and remove the whitelisted entries (see in the right panel - press CTRL-R if you don't see the panel)
(you recognize the exceptions by @@ at the front of them)

I ended up deleting all the "Exceptions" in the group Rule Exceptions?? etc. [Custom filters too]

Not sure if i should just reinstall Ad-Blocker Plus to make sure it is on right with proper configs. How do you get other "filters" added?
Is there a link to Manual for this program? Please post link for me.
....................
Cannot seem to delete individual entries. I am clicking the "enable" box to uncheck "@@" entries, however, some may be good. Don't know how to differentiate this.

Started by search to find "porn" [I don't go to these sites]. Got a list but need to somehow clear these exceptions. [Doing same for"CNN"]

If there is an easy way to BULK clear all exceptions added by USER vs. EasyList etc. please let me know.

I think I missed reading something in the config manual years ago!
Thanks.

AdBlockPluus allows you to add a number of pre-defined filters I believe. How do I get to the site to add these?

I tried removing and re-adding EasyList but i don't know which entries were added to this by me. Many entries are in GREEN...not sure what this means.

Easylist is ok. Just add it.
if you removed the custom filters it's ok.

Be sure you scanned your system for malware.

How do I easily clean out other lists that might have "exceptions" in there that should not be there. I need to start fresh with a clean list for each subscription list without my "exceptions interspersed"

All the lists have exceptions. Just subscribe easylist / easyprivacy and you'll be ok.

How do I know which exceptions were added by me vs. the maker of the LIST. Ids there any notation of "exception added by me"/date added?

As I already told you: only the custom filters were added by you. See "custom filters" tab.
