is there a maximum number of "custom" filters...

Post by kittylicious »

.
is there a maximum number of "custom" filters that can be added to a list?
.
it (suddenly) seems that every time I block something new...
or a filter subscription "updates" thus adding something new...
something... somewhere... (possibly on a different site)... gets "UN-Blocked"...
.
my "custom" ad-blocking list contains 608 seperate entries...
and my "custom" element-blocking list contains 427 seperate entries...
for a "combined" total of 1035 "custom" entries...
is this the maximum number allowed?...
.
having said that... I have several other related questions...
the answers to which might help me solve this extremely irritating problem...
.
(1) - if I "delete" a "subscription"... will all the filters already put in place by that subscription be automatically deleted as well?...
- (I would of course like to keep everything that is already there)...
.
(2) - if I "uncheck" the box on a filter subscription... does that stop it from updating?...
- (or does it simply "disable" all the filters in that list?)...
I have "un-checked" them ALL several times but they still seem to be updating!... Grrrrrrrrr!...
- (and they seem to be all "re-checked" every time I "re-start" my browser)...
so I guess the "real" question here is... "how do I stop all my lists from updating"...
.
(3) - where can I find the mysterious "folder" that contains all the "automatic backup" files (please see the image below)
- so that I can delete the "most recent" entries before the one "good" entry (that still works)
- gets "pushed" off the bottom of the list and therefore completely out of existance?...
- (yes I have already made my own backup just in case)...
.
.
these are the questions of life!!!... (LOL - at least for the moment anyway)...
.
any assistance in these matters will be greatly appreciated...
and thank you to all in advance... : ) ...
.
heres the aforementioned image (screen-cap)...

If you have a lot of custom filters it's way better creating a list (hosted on some free server - dropbox, github ..)
see how-to-do this: forum/viewtopic.php?p=144195#p144195

From your image you are still using the old (deprecated ABP last version 2.9.1) working only for FF < 57
From FF 57 the old one ABP is not working anymore (mozilla switched to another system).

For the old ABP there are special settings:
en/preferences#subscriptions_autoupdate

switch it to false and your subscriptions wont be (automatically) update anymore

en/preferences#patternsbackups
you can modify from 5 (backups) to 1 or 0

Otherwise (...for old ABP) go into your FF profile, adblock plus folder you should see there patterns backups

In the new ABP there are not all these settings.

About other questions about the new ABP (version 3), see this thread:

omg!... so I'm here looking for a solution to a problem I've been having...
and I come across "this" post (of mine) from three years ago...
and upon looking at it again I realize that I never said thank you to
"mapx" for his very prompt and extremely helpful response!...
.
and it doesn't seem that you.. mr. mapx.. are even still around on this forum...
but I'll have you know that the information you gave me has allowed me to
continue using this very old version of firefox.. and therefore the last truely
"functional" ABP version
that goes with it.. for the last three years!!...
.
so should you ever find yourself back on this forum and happen to stumble
upon this three year old thread?... Thank You!.. mr. mapx.. Very Much!!...
