Some changes in FR List

Post by pirlouy »

This topic will notably concern Wladimir and Rick.

After some discussion with Lian, we have decided to have 2 FR lists: the old one (standard) and a new one for Elements.

So it would be nice if Wladimir could change the script and create a new one:
- this one would become a fusion between EasyList and Liste FR Standard (Lian hosts it from now on)
- create a new script in order to merge EasyElement and Liste FR Elements.

I'm not sure if it is planned for 0.8 but it would be cool if those 2 lists were suggested for AB+ FR localization.

I suppose Wladimir will be ok with these changes. Are you ok with that Rick ? Or is there a problem ?
I've also advised Lian that you were ready to create a subforum on forums.lanik.us and like he is interested, is it still possible ?

Lian would become the official maintainer of both lists, but I would stay helping him !
He also has some ideas/requests. I'll let him explain these in this topic or in another (or if he doesn't, I'll try to summarize).

I have no problem, Pirlouy. I am ok with anyone who wants to make a decent supplemental subscription that works with the EasyList.

I am not the person who combines and hosts it though, so that would be up to Wladimir.

I have no problem creating a subforum on my forums ... just let me know (does he speak English too?).

Thank you Rick.

Yes I think Lian can write english. For now I think he will discover your forum, and when he's ready, he'll contact you for this forum. :D

That should be no problem :)

Sure, no problem. I am not recommending element hiding lists yet because of still existing issues with element hiding - but I'll add your list to http://adblockplus.org/en/subscriptions and add it to the merge script.

I must have missed it, can you (or someone else here) remind me what those issues are? You got me wondering.

Element hiding hits don't show up in the blockable items and whitelisting doesn't apply to element hiding - in Firefox 3 we have both these issues back. This makes it hard for regular users to discover/work around issues in element hiding rules.

Hi all and thanks for your great work  sorry for my average English. Pirlouy has well sum up the situation, thanks for him.
In the continuation of his work and with his help, my aim is to maintain two french localized lists as a supplement of Rick752's ones (EasyList / EasyElement). At this moment, I'm a begginer in ABP working (and html/css) so I'm learning how all that works to avoid superfluous or redundant rules :)

The "ideas" which Pirlouy was speaking about are simply linked to a question : how many people have the need and use these french lists ? and do they know they can make proposals. I think it's hard to a "simple" user to see that. So why not thinking about a way to inform them in a different way directly in ABP ? (a string "link" in the filter window, a popup when a new subscription...)

For now, if he still agree with it, the creation of a sub-forum on the Rick752's site can be a good idea :) I will sign up on it.
About what Wladimir tells about Element hiding issues, I hope it will be corrected soon, theses kind of filters has become essential for me :)

Ok, thanks for reminding me. I guess I have just gotten use to those issues.

I just realized that whitelisting element-hiding doesn't work on whitelisting again.

Personally, sometimes it's a curse ... but sometimes it is also a blessing.

I finally updated and script the info for Liste FR (yes, I know that I'm slow :-(). Now that Adblock Plus 1.0 is out I made the combined subscription fetch both Liste FR variants, EasyList and EasyElement - I don't think we still have a good reason not to promote element hiding.
