My experience over the past month or more is that Hotmail/Outlook.com was being slowed significantly by the app, to the point that it is causing errors (sent an email last night, there is no record of it being sent). For some time now I get continuous msgs when trying to open folders in Hotmail where it would take some time to try and open & then indicate either nothing in folder or to try again, or possibly finally open. At times my emails cannot be sent & a msg is relayed that cannot send currently & to try again another time. Very frustrating.

I had previously been using app for some time (& previous version?) without any major issues. I know it is this app because I had no problems operating Hotmail in google chrome. I also disabled this app & then used another one in firefox & no problems opening any folders. So fault is with the app (updated August 2019 I believe), which may have been the time when these issues started.

I hope Adblock Plus can resolve this.

Hi Shannon,

Unfortunately yes, as of today with the other/alternative ad block app. being used, I am again running into the same issues.

Is there a possible explanation for this? Is Hotmail/Outlook.com deliberately targeting Firefox ad blocking apps? The interesting aspect of this is when signing out of Hotmail you are directed to a MSN page in which the ad blocking app currently used (alternative to Adblock Plus) is still proving to be more effective at blocking adds on that web page than Adblock Plus was.

This will likely force me to use google chrome for hotmail use as Firefox ad block apps are proving to be a disadvantage in this case.

Just to complicate issues, the re-occurance of the issues now seems to have resolved itself with the alternative add blocking software, am not running into issues now, or certainly not consistently. I generally leave my account open for long stretches of time (hours) through out the day as a rule.

Another thing to add, my add block 'count' went up to '328' in hotmail today, been open for around 2 hours. Have never taken note before of this number but once hotmail opens the counter app number of blocks goes up very quickly (possibly app software just making itself look good?). Hotmail trying to overwhelm the app?

@way Thanks so much for the follow up! We hate to see you go, but im glad to hear things are working better for you now. Can you let us know which ad blocker you are currently using? I will also make our filter list team aware of the issues with ads , so we can get things sorted on our end. Some sites simply use different circumvention methods against our ad blocking efforts but we are always working diligently to get things working optimally for our users.
