Internet Explorer 9 support
Internet Explorer 9 support
Prepare! Would be epic if adblock would be released for the new IE 9. It's already the fastest starting up in my computer and it's been the most compatible since ever.
I can't really bother writting anything constructive: I wants my favorite addon on IE!

1. Applications with very high user numbersWladimir Palant wrote:blog/how-are-supported-applications-cho ... block-plus - #5
- Considering it will be THE browser on Windows machines, I don't know why people wouldn't use it, or use and test Adblock for that matter.
2. Does not apply.
3 and 4 no knowledge on the subject.
5. Seems doesn't apply anymore, adblock is on chrome and we all love it
Re: Internet Explorer 9 support
There is Adblock for Chrome by Michael Gundlach - an entirely different project, unrelated to Adblock Plus. Points 1 to 4 apply to Gecko-based applications only.
Re: Internet Explorer 9 support
I'm currently using firefox, and also have tried the adblock in private filtering for ie 8 and is ok, not that good because flash advertising sometimes can't block even you copy the list from firefox and put it on ie 8 it can't block it. Still if ie 9 has their own adblock plus just like firefox, I'll might come back with ie.
Re: Internet Explorer 9 support
After some further searching for an adblocker for IE, I came across Simple Adblock. It basically does the same thing as Adblock Plus for Firefox. Though because I don't use IE, I can't verify how it would work with something like the Bing dropdown search. But you can try it yourself and view the results. Download it here:

Re: Internet Explorer 9 support
That's no longer free, and even the free beta version was riddled with false positives when interpreting EasyList (which it was hard-coded to use); IE9 now uses Tracking Protection Lists, and it's advisable to use them in combination with Fanboy's element-hiding stylesheet, which was made for Opera but finally appears to work properly with IE9's suitably advanced CSS parser.Norak Drogan wrote:After some further searching for an adblocker for IE, I came across Simple Adblock. I use FF or SM more than IE on my XP/Vista computers along with ABP on FF/SM.
Re: Internet Explorer 9 support
Thank you. It works on IE9. Appreciate your time. Grecias.

Alot of the reasons given no longer apply to IE9, as it can had plugins for it.
Re: Internet Explorer 9 support
They're properly called BHOs, they existed all the way back to IE4, and they're still way too difficult to debug, must be compiled into native code, and lack the robust API support for Palant's aims that Firefox and Chrome offer.

Re: Internet Explorer 9 support
Chrome didn't offer a robust API either until recently (webRequest).lewisje wrote:They're properly called BHOs, they existed all the way back to IE4, and they're still way too difficult to debug, must be compiled into native code, and lack the robust API support for Palant's aims that Firefox and Chrome offer.
Re: Internet Explorer 9 support
However, the developer of AdThwart did offer a finished product for Palant to maintain, and it was possible even then to block some HTTP requests, with a substantial amount of hackery involved.Guest wrote:Chrome didn't offer a robust API either until recently (webRequest).lewisje wrote:They're properly called BHOs, they existed all the way back to IE4, and they're still way too difficult to debug, must be compiled into native code, and lack the robust API support for Palant's aims that Firefox and Chrome offer.
