Adblock Plus messes with direct .swf (flash) links

Post by Kibata »

Problem: Adblock Plus causes direct .swf links (that open in a new tab) to not always be displayed properly unless the browser is refreshed. Tested with all other plugins/exetensions disabled (except flash) and tried with a non-built-in version of flash.

Version(s): 1.0.26 and 1.0.26.607 (newest beta at time of post.)

Reproduction steps: Install Adblock Plus extension, enable EasyList. All other extensions are disabled. Go to a link for a website that opens a direct flash (*.swf) file such as this. You should see a blank page, if you right click it, you will get the message "movie not loaded." Occasionally file will show properly and preload as intended. Go to extensions and disable Adblock Plus. Go to link, file should now open and load normally. Turn on Adblock Plus, it will fail to load properly again.

You do not need to disable the extension - disabling Adblock Plus on this site seems to fix it as well. This appears to be another scenario affected by Chrome issue 68518. Unfortunately, unlike for the other scenario I do not see a simple work-around. I hope that we will be able to get rid of the "initial hide" feature soon, then this problem will go away...
