Ads by Google not being blocked

Post by Yat »

Though not all the times,

but the Ads by Google is not being blocked, which is 100% blocked by another "Adblock"

Anyone can fix it?

Which filter list are you subscribed to? Does forcing an update solve the issue?

I'm seeing this too. I'm subscribed to 'Easy List' and 'recommended filters for google chrome'.

Earlier today I noticed an upgrade prompt, and updated chrome to the latest version. I think (but I'm not sure) that Google ads were being blocked before that update. Is it possible that they've changed something to thwart Adblock on their ads?

The reason is probably that this page loads very fast for you - it is a timing issue that we cannot really do anything about. With Chrome's multi-process architecture Adblock Plus needs to get its data from the background process for each new page before it knows what to block. If that page loads too fast we get issues like this one. I would really like to see Google to implement something like http://code.google.com/p/chromium/issue ... l?id=47972, that would allow fixing this issue.

Maybe a temporary solution for Google text ads is this article http://www.techsupportalert.com/how_to_ ... xt_ads.htm that involves a little tampering at the Hosts file. I hope that when adblock will be out of beta these problems will be solved.
Thanks for the great work anyway...

I like using the HOSTS file anyway, to provide protection for any application that accesses the Internet as part of defense in depth for passive security.

Adblock for Chrome and Adblock Plus for Chrome are different applications written by different authors with different source code. It would appear that this causes timing differences that only in the latter case result in the page loading too quickly (or maybe that the issue happens intermittently and it just happens that when you tested Adblock for Chrome the page loaded more slowly than usual). Regardless, it seems that the only reliable method to resolve this issue is to use the feature proposed in the bug report, although there is no indication that it will be added any time soon.
