[WontFix] ctrl+shift+v adblock conflict in Firefox 16

Postby Claudio » Thu Oct 11, 2012 12:17 pm

Hello, after updating Firefox to last version (16.0), the keyboard conflict between Firefox command ctrl+shift+v (known as "past special") and adblock "Blockable Items on current page" window appears to be back.

Best,

Claudio

Ctrl + Shift + V = Paste as plain text / without formatting

Postby Dmitri » Wed Oct 17, 2012 6:29 pm

I will be second for this.

Guys, please change this shortcut or make it user-changeable. Ctrl + Shift + V in Firefox is a "Paste as plain text" / "Paste without formatting" feature, it's very useful. As for me, I use it much, much more frequently than viewing a list of blockable items.

BTW, in Google Chrome this keyboard shortcut do the same pasting, so using it for something else appears a bit strange.

Thank you very much in advance,
Dmitri

For me it's quite the other way around. I nerv use this type of paste command.
Instead I was quite annoyed when after years suddenly Adblock didn't come up with this shortcut and instead had to be opened via a two-hand shortcut (at least on a notebook that is).
I'ld say ABP has more legit here - first come first serve.

Change the value of extensions.adblockplus.sidebar_key in about:config.

The shortcut is user-changeable, see above. Also, it should automatically change to Ctrl+Shift+U if Ctrl+Shift+V is otherwise occupied - but in Firefox 16 it isn't for me.

Marking as WontFix.

Note that Ctrl+Maj+V isn't assigned in Firefox (16.x).

The shortcut is used for special pasting more likely by a plugin on some websites (like GMail), that's why the ABP shortcut is not automatically change to Ctrl+Shift+U and that a conflict happens.

Hello,

as I regulary have to page (formatted) texts into my GoogleMail (without format), the Crtl+Shift+V issue is the only thing that makes ABP imperfect for me.

Good to know, I can change it in the about:config - but having a Checkbox so simply disable the Shortcuts would be a great usability improvement. For me the ABP settings are more than good and should I need the settings, I will find them in the menu.

Thank!

This is bad default behavior, and should be changed. CTRL + SHIFT + V is a very common shortcut for paste without formatting, used by Linux, Chrome, Gmail, etc.
Despite Firefox not having default support for this key combo, gmail does. So it should be changed.

Same here, I regularly use this shortcut, and with ABP I can't.

Please change the shortcut or make an option to disable shortcuts in ABP.

Note: No Problems in Chrome, only Firefox (26.0)

Ctrl+Shift+V is listed in the official Firefox documentation now.

I tried it with Word Online and it worked fine though.

while its nice to know that the shortcut can be changed on a browser by browser basis, it is a terrible default setting for a plugin to occupy a standard key combo.

getting tired of the pass the buck mentality of developers these days, don't do the easy fix, make everyone else jump through hoops to make your product compliant with the industry's standards.

that's just lazy

Ctrl + Shift + V is a very common and well-known shortcut, it should not be overwritten.

This is an old thread, but I want to second this. I use Ctrl + Shift + V, and I have to change the settings of AdBlock in about:config every time. At least make a GUI setting for this.
