Remove the icon form the notification bar

Post by Crits »

Hi,

A feature that some users seem to already be asking for: the possibility to remove the ABP icon from the notification bar (in an opt-out scheme).
Seconded by the fact that users install ABP primarily to avoid being annoyed, and it thus includes the APB icon too.

Maybe adding the possibility to replace the current icon with a transparent pixel? (even if it's only a workaround, and that a transparent icon still takes some place in the notification bar)

The developers have to keep a notification to avoid the Android garbage collector from shutting it down.

If you have ICS or later you can go to Settings->Apps->Adblock Plus and untick the 'show notifications' box.

This is annoying quite a lot of users, so I think it definitely needs to get addressed. I've started a new thread to discuss what we can do about it.

Unchecking show notifications does appear to work just fine, I've tested that for a while, running several memory hungry apps. ABP survives.

Sorry for starting a new thread, but I thought it makes sense to not mix up discussions on workarounds and development here.

Yep, no problems, I just think we both posted our last message at almost the same time :)

I have a Droid Bionic running ICS but there is nothing to untick when I follow your directions. :(

It is a Jellybean feature.
