[Added] Skimlinks ads (SkimLinks and SkimWords)

Post by greiner »

Proposed filters:

Code: Select all

@@||s.skimresources.com/js/*.skimlinks.js^$script

Link to a test page:
- SkimLinks: http://gizmodo.com/dealzmodo-triple-mon ... 1003614812 (first link under "Storage", the PNY Flash Drive from Best Buy)
- SkimWords: http://fashion.telegraph.co.uk/news-fea ... ships.html (hyperlinked text)

Advertising type:
SkimLinks converts regular texts and links into affiliate links.

Additional Technical Information:
SkimLinks adds an event listener to the links to make it appear like you will go straight to bestbuy.com. It actually swaps the link when you click on it, making you first go through
http://go.redirectingat.com/?id=33330X9 ... 4812&pref=
before redirecting you to the actual page at
http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Attach%26%2 ... ifications

Concerns:
Regarding both SkimLinks and SkimWords, it looks for the user that he/she is clicking on a direct link. It is not obvious that the user is taken through a third-party domain to end-up at the desired webpage.

We're currently investigating whether track.php is absolutely necessary for the whitelisting. Apart from that there's only the usual kind of tracking involved that an ad network needs to determine the performance of their ads.

They told us that track.php is essential for keeping track of "how many links and skimwords discovered". Therefore we should keep it on the whitelist.

If you want you can get back to me via PM due to the topic being closed now.
