Memory leak in interaction with Flashblock

Post by pchampin »

Since I upgraded to Ubuntu 12.04 (hence to Firefox 12.0),
I experienced massive memory leaks with Firefox:
after a few hours, Firefox eats up 2GiB of memory,
causing a lot of swap and forcing me to kill it.

I noticed that disabling Adblock Plus solved the problem.

Interestingly enough, I also noticed that re-enabling Adblock and disabling Flashblock [1] also solved the problem.

On the flashblock website, it is adviced to "Turn off Object Tabs in the Adblock options", which I could not find.
Anyway, may be there is a smoother way for Adblock to avoid this nasty interaction?

To toggle the preference,
  1. Click the Adblock Plus icon.
  2. Open the Options submenu.
  3. Click "Show tabs on Flash and Java".

You can type about:memory in the address bar and press Enter to get details on memory usage.

Oh, silly me, I was looking in the preference dialog :-) Thanks for the tip.

Wow, I didn't know that one. Thanks again; I'll have a look if the problem comes again.
