Not blocking Youtube ads

Post by Noka »

Adblock Plus, starting today, isn't blocking Youtube ads for me. The preroll ads show up, and the ads that show up at the bottom of the video show up as well.

Before you ask, yes, this is Adblock Plus. Not Adblock.

And "Allow some non-intrusive advertising" isn't checked.

That sort of stuff they're talking about would be covered by unchecking the option I mentioned, which as I said, I do have unchecked, so that isn't it.

Why does google have to be such a bitch sometimes... Beforehand, even free adblock would block youtube ads, but now... I kind of just want to punch someone. (I got adblock almost exclusively to block youtube ads)

This seems to be a serious issue. And I cannot reproduce it unfortunately.

Everyone who gets Youtube ads on Chrome, please do the following:
  • Post your Chrome version numer
  • Post your Adblock (Plus) version number
  • Check whether you have EasyList activated in the options of Adblock (Plus) -> add it if it isn't there
  • Check whether you have any exception rules in Adblock (Plus) -> remove them if you have some (copy them to a text file if necessary)
Now close Chrome. Start it again and describe in detail step by step how you go to Youtube and open a video:
  • Do you have a Youtube bookmark in Chrome and do you click it?
  • Do you type "yout" and select youtube.com from the suggestions?
  • Do you type "youtube.com" and press enter?
  • Do you just click on a video after that?
  • Do you search for a specific video? What did you enter?
  • ect.
Please be as specific as possible. Maybe we can reproduce it and hopefully fix it or at least find out what's causing it.

Everyone who gets Youtube ads on Chrome, please do the following:

Post your Chrome version numer 29.0.1547.57 m
Post your Adblock (Plus) version number 2.6.6 <== it's another extension (mapx)
Check whether you have EasyList activated in the options of Adblock (Plus) -> add it if it isn't there Activated
Check whether you have any exception rules in Adblock (Plus) -> remove them if you have some (copy them to a text file if necessary) None.

Now close Chrome. Start it again and describe in detail step by step how you go to Youtube and open a video:

It is strange though. It rarely happens that I get ads, but it isn't consistent. Maybe Google is working on and testing a way to by-pass AdBlock?

Please be specefic as possible: do you enter "youtube.com" and press enter or do you enter some letters and select the address from the suggestions? If the latter, which suggestion?
Sophtopus wrote:Do you search for a specific video? What did you enter?
No, I just clicked a youtube link and it appeared.
From where? What page (How did you open it? Simply via left-click or via right-click)? Or was it from another program? Please be specific as possible.

@BramVanroy
You didn't describe how you open a video on Youtube. Please explain it in every detail possible so we can reproduce it.

Post your Chrome version numer > Version 29.0.1547.57 m
Post your Adblock (Plus) version number > Adblock Plus 1.5.4
Check whether you have EasyList activated in the options of Adblock (Plus) -> Liste FR+EasyList
Check whether you have any exception rules in Adblock (Plus) -> No exceptions

Now close Chrome. Start it again and describe in detail step by step how you go to Youtube and open a video:

I clicked on the watch to youtube.com button on an embed video on a website, to be redirected to youtube.
Sometimes it works perfect, but sometimes I have and ad before I can watch the video, sometimes I have an "ads by google" over the video that appears during the video.

"Allow some non-intrusive advertising" was checked, but it's the same problem when it's not checked.
