Adblock Plus and (a little) more

Adblock Plus 1.11 for Chrome, Opera and Safari released · 2016-03-08 17:44 by Sebastian Noack

Install Adblock Plus 1.11 for Chrome
Install Adblock Plus 1.11 for Opera
Install Adblock Plus 1.11 for Safari (Safari 6 or higher required)

This release features the new developer tools panel which shows blockable items along with applied filters, and provides an easy way to create new filters for these items, on Chrome and Opera.

Another big change in this release: The “Block element” dialog is no longer injected into the page, but opened as a popup on Chrome and Opera, and as a new tab on Safari. This solved a couple issues, most notably a way that allowed websites to reliably detect whether Adblock Plus is installed.

Other changes

  • Significant improvements to the popup blocking mechanism on Chrome and Opera, in order to address some corner cases which have been exploited by some websites (issue 3651).
  • Restricted the data send by the uninstall page. We respect your privacy! (issue 3649)
  • Fixed: CSS property filters weren’t applied correctly when comma-separated lists of selectors were involved (issue 3654).
  • Fixed: The “Block element” feature didn’t consider $genericblock exception rules (issue 3620, issue 3636).

After being updated to this latest versions, youtube behaves weirdly in chrome. Instead of going straight to the video I see the “An error has occurred. Please try again later.” message. This message disappears and the video plays after a certain duration (probably the length of the ad which isn’t being shown).

I don’t have any money for Amnesty International.

    Reply from Sebastian Noack:

It’s not us, “Adblock Plus”, but another ad blocker called “AdBlock” that is promoting Amnesty International today.

Now with some users being brave enough to use edge
    http://mspoweruser.com/microsofts-official-website-edge-extensions-goes-live-ahead-release/

(lol don’t do it) Ms has plans to finally allow extentions.

That be interesting to see abp jumping on that train ;) Without this addon I would be terrorized by adds. Thanks abp for having our back!

    Reply from Sebastian Noack:

Adblock Plus for Edge is already under development. However, extension support in Edge as available in the current Flight pre-release has still some major limitations, while the current stable version of Edge doesn’t even have extension support at all. But we plan to have Adblock Plus for Edge ready as soon as Edge with full extension support will be released this year.
