Help! Trying to block ads but isnt working

Set up proxy and port settings to WiFi network, but it still won't block ads on TextFree (aka Pinger). Can these be blocked, non rooted? Heck, I'd buy a pro version if they offered it... But now I'm resorting to trying to block ads. I'm on a Sony xperia z1s, 4.4.4. Can anyone please help? Please stay on subject rather than opinions or alternative suggestions (such as "JUST USE KIK TROLOLOL). Help on this would be HUGELY appreciated, thanks.
