- I'm running Lollipop 5.0.1
- I'm using the latest adblock plus build: 354
- I've correctly followed the instructions to setup the proxy: localhost and port 2020
- I can see that the adblock plus blocks the banner adds inly in the app : "GPS Status".
The adblock plus DOESN'T work al all for:
(a) banner adds in Skype
(b) for adds in the Chrome browser web pages
(for instance from the page : http://ads-blocker.com/testing)
I'm really tempted to delete the app and not look at it anymore.
Please give me a reason to keep it !
Many thanks.
- Mauro.
Is this app actually working or is it a farce ?
Re: Is this app actually working or is it a farce ?
Did you turn off "reduce data usage" in Chrome settings ?
Re: Is this app actually working or is it a farce ?
Hi mapx,
many thanks for your suggestion.
Now it's removing the ads from web pages.
I had to turn off the "reduce data usage"
as you suggested. Is there going to be a fix
in the next releases which will allow me to
keep the "reduce data usage" on ?
I still see the banner ads on Skype though.
Is there a way to remove those as well ?
Many thanks for your prompt reply.

So, the connection is not between your browser and the site you visit but between chrome and google servers, so, I guess the ABP proxy can not use its filters correctly.Enabling the "Reduce Data Usage" feature in Chrome establishes a connection between the browser and Google's servers to proxy HTTP requests
If skype app is using https (encrypted traffic), ABP can not block the ads (it's proxy not an extension like ABP for firefox / chrome on desktop)

1) If you turn on 'reduce data usage' Chrome isn't pulling adds from add servers. It's pulling the fully populated page from a chrome server that's already inserted the adds. Because of this there is no way for adblock to filter the add out since it's now just part of the page.Mauro wrote:Hi mapx,

2) Skype is a similar animal. Microsoft has it's own server that it uses to feed adds into skype and, at least as of now, it's not on any of the add filter lists. I suspect it'll wind up on them soon but blocking it removes some actual features of skype so it may not happen.
